  1. The Greek Orthodox Church is the prevailing religion in Greece, which is a part of Christian Orthodoxy, a major branch of Christianity. In modern times, the Olympian pantheon of gods (Zeus, Hera, Hades, etc) are mostly limited to the mythology section in Greek textbooks and museums, though there are a few small groups who continue to worship them. Approximately 98% of the population of Greece is Greek Orthodox, though not necessarily all are practicing. Greece has very strong Christian traditions, and is one of the oldest Christian countries, with Christian roots dating back to Jesus' days. The Greek flag itself bears the Christian cross.
