Do you need electrical converters for travel n Greece?

Public Comments

  1. Where do you live? USA? Yes, you will need a converter.
  2. Since you don't mention which country you live in, the answer is "it depends". If you're an American, you need both a voltage converter and a plug converter. The US uses 120v 60hz current. Greece uses 220v 50 hz current. You'll fry your applicances if you don't have a converter. The electric plugs are also different, so you also need a plug converter. You can find these in many electronics stores. I used to buy them in Radio Shack.
  3. Alot of appliances will have built in electrical converters, for example, my electric shaver and my laptop, the only two electrical appliances that I travel with work in BOTH Greece and the USA. They have built in adaptors and can accept electricity everywhere. Look on your appliances, if you see 120-240V you do not need an electrical adaptor because the adaptor is built in. However, even if you have a built in adaptor, you will need a converter for the wall socket. That is because in Greece, the wall socket plugs are round while in the USA they are flat. This is pretty inexpensive. It will probably cost you about $1-$2.00. It will look something like the photo below
  4. Even if you forget to bring them from your country, you can probably find what you need in Athens, at Radio Shack or a hardware store. Yes, they have Radio Shack in Athens, you surely didn't think they are that backwards did you? LOL I Cr 13;8a
  5. Don't automatically assume you need a converter. You should check your individual chargers or appliances and see if they're dual voltage or not. A lot of computers, mobile phones and camera chargers have voltage capability of 110-220V (it says on the base). If it says 110-220V, then you don't need a converter, you just need to change the pin at the end, which is called an adapter. A lot of hairdryers and other styling appliances have a switch you can flip, you'd only need to get an adapter for the pin. If it only says 110V, then yes you would need a converter (changes the voltage) AND an adapter (changes the pin). Adapters are found for cheap at Radio Shack. Good converters should be found at most travel stores, Best Buy or your local electrical store.
  6. Yes,if live in the USA or Japan.
