Should the Olympics be in Greece every 4 years? Without paying for Protection of course!?

Olympics are a Greek Idea, "Patent".Greece needs the income, will then have armistice (ekehiria)> no need to buy arms, etc. Should Greece be collecting for rights of use of Myhtology, History, Inventions, etc. I know it is far out... Also, since genetic doping is now a reality, what would the implications be if Greece did have the Olympics? If we had the Olympics in Greece, we should of course sell souvenirs Made in Greece! Not in Taiwan, and then tell the poor Greek manufacturer (Ellina viotehni)(any left?) Go Volunteer... ha,ha! maj-len:Care to explique' s'il vous plaits zusje 17 thank you for input. yes, it is funny the concept, but lets not laugh about a serious event such as the Olympic Games, since we give the fire to the others, and we are the first at the parade when they start. This says everything
If so, I would burst into tears every 4 years out of pity for the poor Greek people!
If not every fourth Olympic {16} years at least should be back at the place of birth !
I don't agree with you.Yes Olympics was a greek idea and we should be really proud our ancestors had such great ideas and ideals.But the Olympics nowadays have very little in common with the Olympics of ancients times.The athletes competing in the ancient Olympics were doing it only for the honor of winning them.Nowadays you have contracts,sponsors and a lot or pressure for all great athletes to "win the Gold in Olympics" which of course leads to taking illegal substances and doping. Second the Olympics of ancient Greece were really basic.The opening ceremony was just a prayer to the Gods for good games and that's it.Also the sports and facilities were really basic,also the awards were olive branches.Nowadays it's a multi-billion organisation which can lead a country in extreme debts(like it did with ours).No country,not even the richest could afford to have the Olympics for two times in a row. Last but not least,ancients Olympics were a pure Greek thing.Only free men who spoke Greek were allowed to participate,which of course led to only Greeks participating(whether they lived in Greece or in one of the various greek colonies).Nowadays it's an international thing,and every country is really proud to host the Olympics,I don't think that we should deprive those other countries from the joy and honnor of hosting such a huge and brilliant idea! My only complain and suggestion is this one:If only the ancient cease of fire was held nowadays at least during the Olympics...it is a global celebration,we should all unite under this great idea....i know,i know,wishful thinking....
That indedd would be a excellent idea! But since there are a lots of intersts (legitimate or not) which may be harmed if that come to pass, I don't think that this proposal will ever became reality although I wish for that fervently!
For this Utopian dream to come to be a reality, first of all, Kok@ Kol@, and all the big multinational companies, will have to cease to exist. As you can understand that is highly unlikely. Then the "misers" in Switzerland should have to give up their royalties and rights and all the various sources of income. That too, is highly unlikely. In fact, both the above financial reasons, in my humble opinion, will have to be extinct, for the Olympic games to take constant place in Greece. Too much money involved for them to quit. As we well know, if you have your finger in the vase with the honey, you are bound to lick it. Then is true, that a extensive infrastructure should be in constant construction for the ever increasing needs of the games. Greece can not undertake that heavy financial burden by herself. So we return to the financial factor again. Also as you point out, the genetic doping will in years to come be a major problem for any country that will undertake the organization. We were witnesses of that, through the years, from the period after WWII, with DDR being the country to even alter the genes of the athletes, up to the Marion Jones's latest admission of guilt. Most athletes of the past were the result of the steroids and all the similar stuff used. To return to the spirit of the ancient games, would be a miracle that would have brought the world to peace, but the local and international chieftains have to fight their wars
Greece does not need the olympics there every year,once was enough,especially now that half of the place is burned down.Thank you Mr pyromaniac,building permission seeker,careless or payed arsonist.(not you,them) I can not see how if they had the olympics there they would not buy arms ??They dont buy arms now because they need the ''income''May be they would have enough if they did not have so many corrupt politicians. Greeks buy arms from America,as they make more and more there and dont know what to do with them,Turkey does the same too,both countries under NATO,have never heard 2 ''allies'' been in each others throat as much as these 2 countries.That's in the high political ranks of course as I have seen ''pure mortal ''soldiers in Kos I think it was,years ago,where they point guns at each other during the week and in the weekends they go over with small fishing boats to play backgammon and have a few drinks with the soldiers of the other country.In reference to greece needing the income,everyone is complaining about the cost of living but every public holiday,Athens,a town with about 5 mil people becomes ghost town as everyone has enough for the''escape'' to the country.On a different note look at the acropolis,it lasted thousands of years,survived bombs,fires and all sorts and it was still standing,until it started collapsing from the polution.(The greek factor ),and all the boats that go down every summer,again the Greek factor. As for doping,the balco laboratories,again in America,(is this a coinsidence ?)are still connected with many athletes around the world,so in the famous words and deep beliefs of the Kostas Kenteris fountation,we never lie and never fall off our motorbikes.!I only visited for few weeks every summer during the last 20 years and lived there for 20 years before that,So I may actually be miss-informed,things may be different now.As I heard it last year tho when you apply to work in a public organisation they dont ask you for your degree and what qualifications you might have but for....who you know!!!! Every 4 years might place to much stress on the country and might result in the novelty wearing off. If we could get it as a standard revolving event every 4 cycles (16 years) i think it could be managed and planned in such a way that it was fully funded by business and resulted in great promotion of tourism for Greece. Not likely to happen but a nice idea!
