Films from Greece?

I am interested in seeing a movie from Greece, and is set in Greece, with language spoken in Greek, I do not mind reading subtitles at all. Please recommend to me one that you feel will showcase the fine quailty of Greece and her people. (Forexamplel the movie Amelie is in French, has only French dialogue and after I watched it I really wanted to got to France and skip stones in the park like she did. http://www.caratulasdecine.com/Caratulas/Amelie.jpg Or just like the movie La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful)http://www.iearn.org/hgp/aeti/aeti-1999/images/life-is-beautiful.jpg Makes me want to go to Italy. Thanks :)

  1. The old black and white comedies are the best films from Greece - the new films are very poorly acted and are nothing compared to the oldies!
  2. A lot of the old Greek films are about blood feuds.which are entertaining..if not serious..it still happens...
  3. Well the oldies are good, but one relatively new film I saw a few years back and i really really liked is called "Το φως που σβήνει"(To fos pou svinei translation The light that goes out). It's about a kid that loses his sight but has an amazing ability of playing the violin.Alekos Aleksandrakis plays in that movie, and he was great in it!
  4. Several but the one I list, is in English. Called the "Brides". NYFES in Greek. It has to do with the common history of many people ending in Ellis Island. A sweet love story. One other that describes some Greek characteristics of the people of Constantinople (POLI as we call it for short), Istanbul as is called nowadays is "THE POLITIKI KOUZINA" which allegorically means the cooking done in the life of the people from Poli. A sweet historical memories lane movie. Love could not be excluded. http://www.cine.gr/film.asp?id=704734 http://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%9D%CF%8D%CF%86%CE%B5%CF%82 http://www.cine.gr/film.asp?id=703662&page=4
