- I went to both this summer. My grandmother will roll in her grave when I say this but Greece was a hair bit nicer..
- both have a wealth of culural heritage, but my choice would be Greece, mainly because travelling from island to island is so easy, most people have a good understanding of English. Turkey at the moment seems to be too dependant on a few popular beach resorts, whilst Greece has numerous. Having said that,I have friends who visit Turkey year after year and prefer it to Greece
- i think it depends on your interests and personality. I would prefer to go to Greece but Turkey, i think, is also as beautiful.
- Turkey. Why? Let me explain.Turkey is the only city in the world that straddles to continents. It is a cradle of civilization and amazes the visitors by holding both the east and the west. You can visit all seven churches of the Book of Revelation; stand in the theater where St. Paul preached the Ephesians; visit a mosque, a church and a synagogue all in one day. You can hear a symphony orchestra perform in an 1800-year old theater; stand in a building that for 1000 years was the largest structure on the planet; sail the waters where Antony and Cleopatra honeymooned; glimpse the mountain top where Noah’s Ark is said to rest; or gaze over the ruins of ancient Troy and walk the paths of Achilles, Hector, and Helen. Edit: Thank you for confirming that it was ancient Greek. All of the places I have mentioned are in modern Turkey.....This wasn't a history question, you've asked which country we would rather visit.
- You can go where ever you want to. I amgoing to Turkey this summer.OOOHHH it is so gooood.
- Why do you have to choose between two countries? If i tell you now Spain or Italy? Italy or Greece? USA or CAnada? Norway or Sweden? I think it is nonsense! You are allowed to visit one country? You are not worried about cultures, how people live, what do they do? I would like to visit every country on earth while you are trying to choose between two countries. I am sorry that you are limited.
- Are You Always Asking Provocative Questions? well, I'll answer it anyways.Turkey is a paradise of sun, sea, mountains, and lakes that offers the vacationer a complete change from the stress and routine of everyday life. From April to October, most places in Turkey have an ideal climate that is perfect for relaxing on sandy beaches or enjoying the tranquility of mountains and lakes.Turkey also has a magnificent past, and is a land full of historic treasures from 13 successive civilizations spanning 10,000 years. Even if you spend only a short time in Turkey, you can see a lot of this great heritage. There is no doubt that one visit will not be enough, and you will want to come back again and again as you discover one extraordinary place after another. All of them, no matter how different, have one thing in common: the friendly and hospitable people of this unique country. Welcome to Turkey ;) PS:Both Countries are Gorgeous....I'd love to spend some time in Greece as well
- GREECE>>>GREECE>>>>AND AGAIN GREECE Thank You...
- the greek coasts are like desert (they actually had a couple of trees there until they got burnt), while the Turkish coasts are as green as it gets. as for the joker who said Turkey relies on couple of beaches; nice try but Turkey`s coastal line is at least 5 times longer.
- I would say both. And why not, they are both beautiful. Since they are so close to each other, one can have a holiday visiting both countries in a week or ten days. p.s. Troy was not a Greek city. The ancient Greeks attacked Troy. It was a Trojan city.
- I'm not Turkish and I've been to both, but in my opinion Turkey kicked ass.....there is so much to see and it is surrounded by both the Meditterrean, Aegean, and Black Sea. I also went to Olu Deniz while I stayed there, which is the dead sea and I took a boat trip over the marmaris. The elaborate mosques and palaces along with the infamous "turkish hospitality" made the whole trip an enchanting experience.
- I'd go to Turkey, I don't know why I feel Greece would be boooooring
- I'm Turkish and live in Turkey but I haven't visited all of its historical places and cities. Also I'm interested in other countries..So why not both of them?
- Both are filled with history and have very similar environments, considering that they are neighboring countries. I really don't see the difference. It's like choosing between Venezuela vs. Columbia. It would be pointless to choose between the two. PSS. I agree with anlarm. Troy was a TROJAN city, not GREEK, not TURK.
- You ask my opinion? I prefer Greece for sure
- this is the statistic from Russia:(From Government statistic centre) Russian Tourist (10 country)in 2007 ? Türkiye :1.689.223 China:1.155.720 Egypt:789.375 Fill and:499.338 Espagne:274.976 Italy:264.855 Ukraine :228.865 Greece:215.157 Germany:170.764 Bulgaria:165.301
- I'll go to Turkey...I want to see the sights and their lands!!!!
- I'm an American that's spent time in both Greece and Turkey. Personally, I would reccomend Turkey... although both options are great. I have to say that I have not been to the islands like Crete, only mainland Greece. However, the ancient ruins in Turkey are very similar to those in Greece. The ancient city of Ephesus is just as much of an interesting archeological site as the ancient cities in Greece... and pretty much the same thing. But, on top of seeing such sites Turkey has some natural wonders not found in Greece. This includes Pammukkale and Cappadocia. Also, the beaches on the southern coasts are better than Greece's mainland beaches. To top it off, Istanbul and Izmir have great nightlife. And, if you still want an island you can fly from Istanbul to Cyprus (the Northern side of Cyprus) or take a boat from the southern Turkish city of Mersin for very cheap. Cyprus is a fascinating island, with both an interesting ancient history and current political situation. It's easy to travel from the Turkish to the Greek side with most passports. And, like I said, cheap... much cheaper than visiting Greek islands. One more thing... haha... Turkish culture is similar to Greek culture in many ways, but since it is Muslim it has it's differences. Experiencing a new culture is also very interesting, and the Turkish people seem more open and welcoming to foreigners than Greek people in general.
- Go to Greece. After your last comment, I don't think we would enjoy hosting ignorant and rude people. Read Homeros. He will teach you.
- I would say definitely go to Greece if you have never been there, you will regret it if you don't, it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and has been the resort choice of Europeans for decades. I have spent years there and can tell you it is not boring. The coastal length of Greece is double that of Turkey since it winds through peninsulas, bays and coves while Turkey is a straight coast. In addition, Greece has over 5,000 Islands, one of the heaviest concentration of Islands in the world, just exploring Islands will occupy more time than you will ever have. If you had to choose one Island, definitely make it Santorini, not many beaches but is one of the scenic wonders of the world, you simply have to experience it to know what I am talking about. There are ferries that will take you there as well as other popular Islands on the way. I don't know what your plans are, how much time and money you plan to spend but one of the most memorable experiences you will even have would be to get a group of friends together and charter a private yacht which will take you to the Islands of your choice for a week, along with a cook. Other recommendations would be to rent a car or motorcycle and travel the back roads visiting small towns along the coastline. Since Greece and Turkey are so close, why not visit both? It would be a shame to miss one for the other since they are in such close proximity. If it was me and I had the time and money, I would check out both and make my own evaluation instead of asking others for their obviously subjective answers here.
- if you go to Rhodes or Kos you can travel to Turkey for under 30euros vise versa if you go to Turkey you can day trip Greece i was in both this year and i preferred Greece but the Turkish people were the friendliest watch your baggage allowance as Attila the Hun works at Kos airport
- Venus
- Turkey - ppl are nice and hospitable for a change
- i like both. but Turkey wins by far. i absolutely love it. :)
- In the same day,you could visit both, if you go to Rhodos and Marmaris.
- It looks to me like if i prefer Greece i am dead meat in the thumbs down department. tsk,tsk I have to be honest anyway i have been to Greece twice both times i had a blast. Its a beautiful country no doubt. I never got to Turkey the closest i came was 3 yrs ago my church organized a youth retreat @Ararat but in the last minute we were informed our trip was canceled when they found out our group consisted of 250 Armenians teenagers. Stupid really but true.
- I am French , and I already have been in Turkey,Bodrum. That was great ,people were nice; beaches are beautiful, food is delicious, prices are ok, and I really had fun with all the new friends I met there. I will return soon, for sure... But I also would like to visit Greece, because it's a little different ( language and religion). I suppose Greece can also provide the same fun and the same pleasure, as these countries have many things in common. And I think that you can take more seriously only the answers from people who are NEITHER Greek NOR Turkish, and who have visited BOTH countries, in case you fear that people may not be sincere.
- Turkey. There are more things to see.
- Italy
- both and none!!!!!!
- How can you ask someone to choose between seeing the Acropolis and the Hagia Sophia Museum, between the Cyclades and the Cappadoce, between the Meteora and the Black Sea, between the medieval citadel of Rhodes and the castle of Bodrum, between ouzo and raki, between Sakis Rouvas and Tarkan, between a beautiful Greek woman and a beautiful Turkish woman who both make me feel so passionnate?... How ?... Is it a crime if I want to discover both?...
- Actually neither one sound very appealing.
- If you want to have fun, discover history and archeology, listen to good music, eat delicious cuisine, meet kind people, you have to see both countries... Why are you obliged to choose one? There is no Parthenon in Istanbul, and there is no Topkapi Palace nor Blue Mosque in Athens, but I think your culture will increase by seeing them both... At least, try to visit these countries once, and you will be able to answer your question by yourself....
